When choosing a top for you car, be sure to check for features such as pre-installed grommets and straps, rear retaining strip with grommet holes built into top as original, a correct fit, and quality materials. Includes new Heavy Duty Top Frame with 40-ounce vinyl top installed. Includes hardware kit and solid stainless steel latch and hook set and frame clips with washers.
Heavy Duty Top Frame Description: A Thing Shop exclusive! The best top frame available for your Thing. Made to the original factory specifications using factory blueprints, our frame is an improved product. We've seen the problems that the genuine top frames had and have corrected them by building our "Heavy Duty" frame from thicker gauge steel (1/3 thicker on the main side rails). We have also noticed the hinge points would sometimes bend, the rivet holes would elongate and they were a definite weak point. To correct this problem we made our hinges from thicker steel. Finally, we've reproduced the original header bow (identical shape to the original) with new improved steel that has the latest rust-resistant metal finish. You will have many years of service from this new top frame - it comes powder coated in black satin (semi-gloss as original) for a long lasting finish.
The Thing Shop has been able to obtain the remaining tops (OLIVE GREEN) that VW of Mexico has saved for German export. They are new and in great condition with one exception, the rear window. When we remove the protective film there is a residue like substance left on the window that remains.
